Geneva Lake is one of the clearest and cleanest lakes in Wisconsin, reaching 135 feet at its deepest point and spanning 21 miles around. On a hot summer day there is genuinely nowhere better to be than on its shores.

Here’s every public beach and swimming spot worth knowing, organized so you can find the right fit for your crew.

The Beaches

The most popular and centrally located beach in Lake Geneva, sitting right in the heart of downtown. Sandy shoreline, lifeguards on duty from Memorial Day through Labor Day, assembled docks just offshore, and restrooms on site. The beach runs daily from 9am to 5pm in season and costs $10 per person (children under 6 are free). Surrounded by shops and restaurants, this is the spot if you want beach time woven into a full downtown day.

Consistently voted the local favorite. Fontana Beach is the largest public beach on Geneva Lake, with a wide sandy stretch, a big grassy area behind it, volleyball courts, and picnic tables. Lifeguards are on duty from Memorial Day through Labor Day, daily from 9:30am to 6pm. Located in the small village of Fontana on the west end of the lake, with shops and cafes steps away. The Fontana Paddle Company is nearby for kayak rentals if you want to get out on the water after.

A quieter, more low-key beach on the north side of the lake with a shaded, tree-lined setting and calm, shallow water. Floating buoys mark different depths, making it a great option for families with younger kids. Free parking across from the beach area. Open daily 9am to 5pm in season. If you want a beach day without the downtown crowds, Williams Bay is the move.

A full state park on the south side of Lake Geneva with 900 feet of sandy swimming beach, 5 miles of hiking trails, picnic areas, and a playground. Pet friendly. A state park vehicle sticker or day pass is required for entry. Open year-round, with the swimming beach active during summer months. A great option for families who want the beach plus nature and space to spread out.

A public park and open swimming area on the east end of Williams Bay with lawn space, benches, and easy lake access. Less structured than the main beaches but a lovely, relaxed spot. Public restrooms on site. Good for a quick dip or a quiet afternoon by the water.

Water Rentals Near the Beaches

Want to do more than just swim? These are the rental options right at the lake

.

Kayak and stand-up paddleboard rentals right on Geneva Lake in downtown Lake Geneva. No experience needed. Easy to book online in advance, which is smart on summer weekends.

Kayak and paddleboard rentals near Fontana Beach on the west end of the lake. A natural add-on to a Fontana beach day.

Boat rentals for getting out on the full lake. A great upgrade from a beach day to a full day on the water.

Local Tip: Riviera Beach sells out of wristbands on peak summer weekends. Arrive early or head to Fontana or Williams Bay if you’re going on a Saturday in July or August.
