International Astroid Day Star Party at Yerkes Observatory

Come to Yerkes Observatory on June 30th, 2018 from 8-10:30pm for International Astroid Day! Far more fascinating than they appear at first glance, asteroids threaten Earth, give us opportunities, and help us learn about the universe we inhabit. But how? How do we find asteroids, and track their orbits? What uses might they have? What threats do they pose -- and how can we mitigate those threats? And how can we use these rocks to help us in our never-ending quest to understanding the universe?

Join us on June 30th, International Asteroid Day, to find out. While the main purpose of this star party is to explore asteroids through riveting talks and interactive activities, if skies are clear, you'll be able to enjoy the lovely views through our lawn telescopes, observing stars, star clusters, nebulae, and galaxies.

This event is hosted by Yerkes IDATA, a program seeking to make astronomy accessible to students who are blind and visually impaired. As such, this star party will be fully accessible to people of all vision levels.
